报告人简介:

Yuying Yan is Chair Professor at University of Nottingham, UK; also a Guest Chair Professor at DLMU.  His research covers widely ranged areas of thermofluids including heat transfer enhancement, applied thermodynamics, phase change, nanofluids and nature inspired solutions for energy efficiency and thermal management.  His research also highly focuses on the interface of heat mass transfer and the coupling of thermofluids with surfaces. He is the first Group Head of cross-departments of thermofluids research in the faculty, which consists of 25 academic members from Built Environment, Chemical, Civil and Mechanical Engineering. He is founding member of international society of Bionic Engineering and stranded as Deputy General Secretary of the society for the first 10 years of the society. He has been identified by Clarivate as top 1% world highly cited researcher (engineering) in 2025 based on his past 11 years research publications in web of sciences. He is also the winner of David Kenning Award in Two Phase (Boiling) Heat Transfer in 2024 awarded by the UK national heat transfer committee selected around the world and reviewed by the international leading authorities of heat transfer.

报告内容摘要:

It is essential to understand the interfacial driving forces of heat and mass transfer for process intensifications. Interfacial forces govern the fundamental physics of heat and mass transfer across phase boundaries, playing a critical role in systems ranging from industrial heat exchangers and chemical reactors to atmospheric cloud formation and biological membranes. Despite decades of study, a unified understanding of how these forces—including surface tension gradients, disjoining pressure, and viscous stresses, as well as some additional body forces coupling with thermal and concentration fields remains a grand challenge. After briefly reviewing our previous and current works, this talk will provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of knowledge on interfacial force dynamics. The key mechanisms driving interfacial phenomena, such as Marangoni convection, capillary-driven flows, and phase-change heat transfer will be addressed. In terms of the applications to systems or device-level, such as in energy storage, power electronics thermal management, etc., the modelling of multi-scales is discussed.
